Voices of Change Presents Silent Music: Music of the Holocaust

HPMS Orchestra Students had the privilege of attending Silent Music of the Holocaust presented by Dallas’ contemporary chamber music ensemble, Voices of Change.  The program featured three composers who died in the Holocaust including two works that were composed in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. The program also included pieces by Israeli composer Boris Pigovat and SMU Professor Emeritus of Composition, Simon Sargon.

We were also honored to have Dr. Charlotte DeCoster from the Dallas Holocaust Museum facilitate an hour long forum providing historical and cultural context prior to the concert.

The evening’s program:
Boris Pigovat: Silent Music (viola, harp)
Pavel Haas: 4 Songs on Chinese Poetry (baritone, piano)
Gideon Klein: String Trio (violin, viola, cello)
Erwin Schulhoff: Flute Sonata (piano, flute)
Simon Sargon: Shema (piano, flute; a 1988 Voices of Change commission )

Many thanks to Lin Lim who put this program into place for our students to attend.  She was on the board of Voices of Change for two years serving as Treasurer and Outreach Committee.
