On Thursday, May 23rd, led by our Orchestra Director, Ms. Sarah Willson and Assistant Orchestra Director, Mr. Ben Mitchell, the 6th grade Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra, Honor Orchestra, and our Harp Ensemble performed their last concert at the Highland Park Middle School Auditorium.
Classics and Classic Cartoons: The Beginning Orchestra performed Conquest by J. Woolstenhulme and Batman by B. Cerulli. Our harp ensemble, Daisy Murphy, Elizabeth Kerr and Noemi Tsai collaborated on a beautiful piece by R. Schumann’s The Reaper’s Song and G. Barber’s Bonnie Biggs Fiesta. The Philharmonic Orchestra performed H. Woolstenhulme’s Shaper Shifter and C. Rollins’ Under the Sea. And finally, the Honor Orchestra delivered two pieces, Bacchanale by C. Saint Saens and Music from Brave by P. Doyle. All the 8th graders came together to perform the final piece of the evening, “Memory” from Cats by A. Weber/B. Lowden. It was certainly an evening filled with beautiful music!
We will like to acknowledge the family of Cecelia Coale who generously provided refreshments and J.D. Chippery for our performers following the performance. The first fundraiser selling JonnyPops under the new Board went well. Our gratitude to all our corporate sponsors and families who have donated to our Orchestra!
